Create Texture On A Panel With Machine Quilting

Natalia Bonner is back and excited to share this adorable quilt with you in the PNQ Academy. This quilt presents lots of fun design elements including, each corner with feather motifs that really allow creativity to shine through.

There was ample negative space before Natalia began free-motion quilting, which provided the perfect canvas. In this video, Natalia will machine quilt feathers in all four corners and throughout the open areas at the top and bottom. She'll also bring the center panel to life with machine quilting texture.

Texture is easily achieved with the help of machine quilting and the right batting. For this project, Natalia will be using Quilter's Dream Wool batting to create beautiful dimension. Some other products that will help include the blue Mark-B-Gone marker for marking and various Sway rulers for ruler work. Of course, Natalia can't quilt without her favorite, Mini 4-N-1 ruler either!

Throughout the background areas and outside blocks, Natalia will be using So Fine! thread in color #451. However, as she works through the center panel where the background fades from white to green, she'll switch to #493 green thread so it blends nicely. Then back to #451 white at the bottom.

Since the backing has greens, Natalia chose green pre-wound SuperBobs for consistent color. Natalia will be free motion quilting everything on her Gammill 22" using a ruler foot, stitch-regulated mode at 13 stitches per inch. Remember to always use a ruler foot for ruler work on any machine.
